Begin with your intended exit
National Gold Group explains how it prices a purchase using a wholesale reference and a disclosed markup.
Priority Gold describes three ways to sell products originally bought from it. Those are different decision points: one helps you examine the purchase price, while the other helps you understand potential exit routes.
National Gold Group also says it offers a no-fee buyback for metals bought from it. That statement is not a current bid or proof of a future profit. Priority’s published buyback policy describes an immediate wholesale bid and a conditional consignment route. The amount you receive depends on the actual bid, applicable fees and the item.
The
National Gold Group review and
Priority Gold review provide separate company profiles.
Priority Gold’s three sale routes
Priority’s buyback policy applies to products originally purchased from the company. The route changes who seeks a buyer and how a price is determined. The company does not promise a fixed price.
| Route | Published terms and limits |
|---|---|
| Open market | The owner sets the asking price and sells directly or through an online auction, taking responsibility for finding a buyer. |
| Immediate liquidation | Priority describes buying at the current wholesale bid and selling to a national wholesaler. The bid can be lower than the original purchase price. |
| Consignment | Available for qualifying investment-grade or numismatic products purchased from Priority and held at least 60 months. All bullion products are excluded, including bullion coins, bars and rounds. Priority lists an 18% fee to find and secure a buyer. |
The consignment route is not an immediate cash quote and does not apply to every metal product. Priority’s policy does not promise a sale at a particular price or time. For a particular item, confirm its classification, holding period, fee calculation and current agreement before relying on the route.
A personal owner who can wait may value the chance to seek a different buyer through consignment; an investor who needs liquidity sooner may prefer a current wholesale bid despite the possibility of a lower price. Neither description establishes the net amount you would receive. For IRA-held metal, the custodian and depository must also be able to authorize and carry out the transaction under the account agreement.
Request a purchase and repurchase quote
National Gold Group describes a wholesale reference plus a disclosed markup. Ask for the reference value, markup, other charges and final price for a specific product. For
Priority Gold, request an equivalent written breakdown for the same item and quantity. A description of a method is not evidence that either provider has the lower current total.
Ask each dealer for a contemporaneous bid to buy the identical items back. The CFTC advisory defines a spread using the dealer’s sale and purchase amounts. The spread checker calculates the quoted difference from your figures; the actual bid and conditions govern the transaction.
Illustrative order numbers:
| Hypothetical item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Purchase price | $15,000 |
| Repurchase bid | $13,500 |
| Quotation gap before other costs | $1,500 |
These hypothetical amounts are not quotes from either dealer and cannot forecast an eventual sale. Ask when each bid expires, whether it is binding before inspection and what deductions could affect proceeds.
If one company proposes a different coin or bar, ask whether a matched alternative is available. Product weight, form, specifications and quantity can affect price and resale. Comparing unlike products may still help you choose an item, but it does not isolate the dealer's pricing. Record differences in weight, form and quantity.
Hypothetical Purchase and Repurchase
What the IRA custodian controls
A dealer supplies metal; an IRA custodian administers the account, while a depository holds the property under its agreement.
National Gold Group lists multiple storage providers and says availability may vary by location. Ask which custodian and vault are proposed for your order, and whether an existing self-directed account can accept that dealer's invoice and delivery.
Ask Priority which custodian and vault would handle your transaction. Request their legal names, account agreement and current fee schedules.
The custodian and dealer guide distinguishes the jobs. Ask who approves the purchase, who reports the holding and who receives an instruction to sell. A representative can coordinate the paperwork, but the institution charging a fee should provide the schedule governing it.
If you already have a custodian, confirm whether it accepts the proposed product and facility before opening a second account. A recommended arrangement can be convenient, but it may use different fees or procedures from your existing one. Ask both institutions about any transfer or closure charges before moving assets.
Product eligibility and storage
IRS collectibles guidance describes exceptions for specified coins and qualifying bullion subject to applicable conditions, including trustee possession. Obtain account-institution approval of the specific product and receiving location. A product catalog or a sales description does not replace that confirmation.
Priority’s catalog lists coins, bars and rounds across several metals. Ask which particular products are currently available and accepted by your account. Ask the featured dealer for a matching product and its current availability. The eligible metals guide distinguishes a product and its custody.
Ask whether the vault separates items by customer and what the agreement requires on an in-kind distribution. The storage comparison sets out the return-right questions. Review the insurance terms for the insured party, covered property, exclusions and deductible; coverage for physical loss does not guarantee a market value.
Keep the dealer's confirmation, the custodian instruction and the account statement together. After settlement, verify the product and quantity. If the records do not agree, contact the responsible institution and request a written correction. Keep the records so a future buyer can identify your items.
Compare ongoing costs separately
Obtain up-to-date schedules for setup, administration, storage, transactions and distributions from the institutions involved. Determine the calculation method for each fee and how the institution notifies customers of changes.
National Gold Group says its own IRA setup charge is $0. That does not establish the custodian’s or depository’s charges. Compare the purchase price and any sale fee separately.
If either provider offers a promotion, ask for its current qualification, duration and covered charges. A credit or waived fee may have conditions that do not apply to every account. Do not use a historical promotional number or infer that an unspecified charge is zero. The fee waiver guide explains how to evaluate the complete offer.
For a like-for-like estimate, use the same intended holding period and storage rights. The fee calculator illustrates your assumptions but cannot guarantee future fees or metal prices. If a company proposes a different facility or segregated arrangement, record that service difference alongside the cost.

Moving retirement funds
The paperwork and withholding can differ when a plan pays an IRA directly, IRA trustees transfer funds, or the money is paid to you. Confirm eligibility with the existing administrator; the receiving custodian supplies account details and transfer instructions. The rollover guide explains the general paths.
Ask who coordinates the paperwork and when a product quotation becomes binding. When assets must be liquidated first, review their settlement timing and charges before estimating proceeds. An offer may expire while funds move, so confirm the final item and price when the receiving IRA is ready to authorize payment.
If the transaction changes account type or pays funds personally, obtain qualified tax advice about your own history and circumstances. A dealer's sales process cannot determine whether the existing plan permits the movement or what the tax outcome will be for you.
Direct purchases and personal storage
Both companies describe personal purchases of metal. Ask for the current product, payment and delivery terms if you want to own metal outside an IRA. Confirm shipping responsibility, insurance, signature requirements and the process for a damaged or missing parcel.
Personal ownership gives you direct storage choices and responsibilities. A purchase made by an IRA follows the account's custody arrangement. The cash vs IRA guide explains why a personal safe and a retirement account are different contexts. If retirement funds are distributed to finance a personal purchase, ask a tax professional to assess that step separately.
Do not assume a personal delivery address can be substituted for the custodian's approved destination. Confirm the owner, invoice and recipient before payment. If the order type or account documents are unclear, obtain written instructions from the responsible institution and check the final confirmation.
Apply the policy to your holding
Consider a saver who holds a bullion bar purchased from Priority and wants to fund a near-term distribution. The published policy excludes bullion from consignment, so that route cannot be assumed for this bar. Priority’s immediate-liquidation route uses a current wholesale bid, while an open-market sale requires the owner to locate a buyer. The saver still needs an executable amount and the custodian’s approval before treating either route as available inside an IRA.
Now consider a different owner with an eligible investment-grade or numismatic product purchased from Priority and held for the required period. Consignment may be an option under the published policy, but it involves the stated fee and a later buyer. A potentially higher sale value is not guaranteed, and the wait may be incompatible with an imminent cash requirement. Ask how the fee is calculated on the specific transaction and what happens if the product does not sell.
These are applied illustrations, not claims that a particular product qualifies or that a buyer has been secured. A statement value is not a buyer’s offer. Compare any immediate offer with the net outcome of another lawful route, including the custodian’s and facility’s own charges. A sale inside the IRA and a later distribution are distinct decisions, so the account administrator should confirm the actual procedure before instructions are sent.
A prospective buyer should also consider whether the investment fits a long holding period before relying on any future exit route. Money needed soon for expenses may require a sale in an unfavorable market. The policy describes how a sale may be pursued, but it cannot remove market risk or substitute for a liquidity reserve suited to the buyer’s circumstances.
The original-purchase condition also affects a buyer who already owns metal from another dealer. Priority’s published policy describes eligibility for products bought from Priority, so an existing holding from elsewhere should not be counted as eligible under that policy. The buyer may still seek an independent offer; the published terms do not establish the outcome of that inquiry.
Why product classification changes your exit
Priority’s catalog lists bullion coins, bars and rounds. Its consignment exclusion covers bullion as a class, so a coin does not become eligible simply because of its form. The IRA eligibility of a product answers a different question from eligibility for this sale route.
An asking price is not a completed sale. A near-term distribution can therefore call for a different route from a sale where the owner has time to wait.
Choose for the metal and timing you expect
Choose
National Gold Group when the starting point is an explanation of how the dealer builds the proposed purchase price. Its disclosed markup approach makes the reference and dealer charge questions to resolve on the actual order; it does not establish that the final price is lower than Priority’s. The dealer’s setup statement also leaves the custodian and vault charges to be assessed separately.
Consider Priority when you are thinking of buying a qualifying investment-grade or numismatic item and expect to hold it for at least 60 months. Its described consignment route offers a possible later sale through another buyer, subject to the 18% fee, original purchase from Priority and product classification. The terms applicable when you sell could change, and the policy offers no guaranteed sale date or price.
That distinction matters before choosing the metal. A buyer seeking a standard bullion bar for a possible near-term IRA distribution should not value Priority’s consignment option as if it applied to the bar. A buyer comfortable waiting on an eligible item can investigate it, but needs to understand the fee basis and the account institution’s release process. Neither route establishes a future sale value or proves a better investment outcome.
Frequently asked questions
Does
Priority Gold guarantee a future buyback price?
No. Priority’s policy does not guarantee repurchase at a particular time or price. It describes different routes with product and transaction conditions. Its consignment option also has eligibility restrictions and a fee, so a possible later sale should not be treated as an assured cash payment.
Which provider has the lower spread?
A public policy cannot determine the spread on a particular purchase. Obtain both dealers’ contemporaneous sale prices and buyback bids for matching items and quantities. Deduct the costs needed to complete each sale, and distinguish a current executable offer from an estimate or a consignment proposal.
Can I use my existing IRA custodian?
Possibly, subject to the existing custodian’s acceptance of the seller, exact metal and destination vault. Confirm its invoice and payment instructions before placing the order. Keeping that account can simplify continuity, but it does not remove the need to check storage compatibility and the institution’s transaction charges.
Is a consignment offer the same as an immediate bid?
No. An immediate bid is an offer under stated conditions at a particular time; consignment may involve a later buyer and different fees, duration and cancellation terms. Ask Priority for the current written agreement applicable to the specific products before choosing a route.
