Best Preserve Gold alternatives

If you are drawn to Preserve Gold for its fee assistance, compare it first with National Gold Group, the featured pick on this site, which describes a lifetime storage-fee waiver for qualifying IRAs and a no-fee buyback. Choose Noble Gold Investments instead if you would rather see a printed account fee example than rely on any conditional waiver.

Why you might look beyond Preserve Gold

Preserve Gold's pitch is easy to like: help with IRA custodian and storage fees for qualifying accounts, a zero-fee buyback on metal bought from it, and a price-match offer on its homepage. The trouble is working out what any of that is worth to you. The fee help depends on your starting investment, and Preserve's site did not show per-product prices when we checked. Its June 2025 transaction agreement contains no guarantee of actual repurchase or a particular price, says the dealer spread can vary and may be negotiable, and puts the choice of custodian and storage company on you.

Preserve is not unusual here. On November 6, 2026, we found no per-product prices on the pages we checked for 14 of the 20 IRA-focused gold companies whose sites we could read, including National Gold Group, which owns this site. And we found 10 of the 42 operating companies advertising that they pay, may pay or waive gold IRA custodian or storage fees for qualifying accounts in October 2026. So the real question is which firm puts the terms you care about in writing. The alternatives that follow each answer that differently.

Questions to put to Preserve Gold before you switch

You may not need to leave Preserve at all. Before you move on, ask it the questions its own documents leave open, and give every alternative the same list so the answers are comparable:

  • Which custodian and storage fees does the assistance cover, for how many years, and what qualifying investment triggers it?
  • Does Preserve pay the institution directly or credit you, and what happens to the benefit after a partial sale or a custodian change?
  • What is the total price for the exact IRA-eligible coin or bar you want, and what would Preserve bid for that same item today?
  • Which written agreement will govern your order, and does it include any buyback or fee promise the salesperson made?

If a representative steers you toward a semi-numismatic or premium coin to qualify for a bigger benefit, ask for a quote on plain IRA-eligible bullion as well. Preserve's agreement treats product classification as the dealer's opinion, and a higher premium on the whole order can wipe out the value of help with a yearly bill. A promotion that pushes you into more metal than your plan calls for has stopped serving you. Once you have Preserve's answers, the alternatives that follow become a straight comparison of written terms rather than a contest of offers.

National Gold Group: a storage waiver you can test

National Gold Group is the featured first alternative here, and Gold IRA Master gives it this placement to promote its services, so judge it on its written quote. Its offer looks closest to Preserve's, which makes the comparison clean. In November 2026 its transparency page described a lifetime storage-fee waiver for qualifying IRA accounts, a lifetime no-fee buyback at current market rates, and a $0 charge for its own IRA setup service, separate from custodian and depository fees. The same page says its pricing uses wholesale data with a disclosed markup.

It suits a saver who would otherwise pick Preserve for the fee help, because you can ask both firms the same three questions: which fee is covered, for how long, and what the bid is for the same coin today. Its IRA guide also explains the roles of dealer, custodian and depository. National Gold Group vs Noble Gold Investments shows how it stacks up against a published-fee rival.

Keep the comparison honest by holding everything else constant. Use the same IRA-eligible product, the same quantity and, where possible, the same custodian and depository for both quotes. National Gold Group's pricing statement describes a method, not your order's markup, so ask for the exact item, total price and quote expiry in writing. If either firm's waiver would not survive a transfer or partial sale, note that as a condition rather than a saving.

Noble Gold Investments: the bill without the promotion

If Preserve's conditional fee help makes it hard to see what you will actually pay, Noble Gold Investments is the cleaner benchmark. In November 2026 its gold IRA page printed a $50 setup fee, a $30 wire fee, $125 a year for maintenance and $160 a year for storage, with a $20,000 IRA minimum.

Use those figures as the ordinary bill you would face once any waiver stops. If Preserve's assistance only covers part of a similar schedule for a limited time, the difference may be smaller than the marketing suggests. Noble's page covers account charges, not the metal premium, so still compare a quote and same-day bid for the identical product.

Birch Gold Group: custodian names up front

Preserve's agreement leaves custodian and storage choice with you, even when it suggests providers. If you would rather see named institutions before you start, Birch Gold Group lists custodians in its FAQ. Its pricing page in November 2026 gave an illustrative example for a named arrangement: $80 for setup and wire and $235 a year for custody, storage and insurance, along with a first-year offer worded around $50,000.

Birch fits a saver who wants a costed example tied to real institutions. Ask whether the first-year offer applies to a purchase or a transfer in your case, since the page's wording differs. National Gold Group vs Birch Gold Group adds the featured pick to the comparison.

Advantage Gold: a choice of recommended custodians

Advantage Gold suits you if you want a dealer to suggest custodians but still let you choose. Its FAQ lists recommended custodians and depositories, eligible metals and a buyback, and discloses limits on what its representatives can advise on. That candour about roles is the useful contrast with a fee-assistance pitch.

We hold no current Advantage Gold fee or minimum figures, so ask for them in writing along with its buyback terms. National Gold Group vs Advantage Gold covers the two head to head.

American Hartford Gold: the spread on paper

Preserve's agreement defines its spread from its own acquisition cost and says it may be negotiable, but gives no range. American Hartford Gold goes further: its September 2026 transaction agreement discusses product spreads and a price protection window of seven calendar days for qualifying coin categories. Like Preserve, it says repurchase is not guaranteed.

Choose it if knowing the dealer's margin range matters more to you than a fee waiver. Its IRA page named Equity Trust and Delaware Depository in October 2026; confirm both are still in place. See National Gold Group vs American Hartford Gold.

Augusta Precious Metals: answers before a sales pitch

If Preserve's offers feel like they are pushing you toward a bigger order, Augusta Precious Metals leads with explanation instead. Its FAQ describes the IRA process, the separate roles of each institution, funding and conditional sale guidance. It suits a first-time buyer who wants to understand the structure before deciding how much to move.

We could not cite a current Augusta fee schedule, so ask for one, and compare its quote on the same coin with Preserve's. National Gold Group vs Augusta Precious Metals sets out the featured comparison.

Putting the quotes side by side

Every alternative on this list can only be judged against a written quote, so make the providers answer the same questions. Ask each one for the identical IRA-eligible product in the same quantity, its total price, a same-time bid for that item and the custodian and depository fee schedules. Then run the numbers yourself:

  • The spread checker shows the gap between the purchase quote and the bid for the same item.
  • The fee calculator adds account and storage charges over the years you expect to hold.
  • The annual fee comparison lines up the yearly custodian and storage bills side by side.

Treat any promotion as a separate line with its own conditions, and leave any amount a company will not put in writing as unknown rather than zero. The CFTC advisory for metals buyers asks you to understand how the seller is paid, so ask every firm that question directly.

For Preserve in particular, enter its quote twice: once with the fee assistance applied to the covered charges and period only, and once without it. If the result still beats the alternatives once the assistance ends, the offer is doing real work for you. If it only wins while the waiver lasts, the bullion price is carrying the cost, and a firm with a lower premium may leave you better off over the years you plan to hold.

Do the same for the sale side. Preserve's no-fee buyback and each rival's buyback should be compared as net cash after any custodian, vault-release or shipping charge, since a dealer charging nothing to buy back can still bid less than another buyer.

How we checked this. Provider facts come from the review research files, with dates as captured between June 2025 agreements and November 2026 page checks. Offers and fee examples are historical snapshots; request the current agreement and a written quote.

Frequently asked questions

Is Preserve Gold's fee assistance worth choosing it for?

Only if the covered fees, their duration and the qualifying investment fit your plan, and the bullion price is competitive. A waiver on a modest annual bill can be outweighed by a higher premium on the whole order, so compare a full quote and same-day bid from at least one alternative.

Does Preserve Gold guarantee to buy back my metal?

Preserve advertises a zero-fee buyback for metal bought from it, but its June 2025 transaction agreement contains no guarantee of actual repurchase or a particular price. No fee is not the same as a good bid, so compare net sale proceeds.

Which alternative is closest to Preserve Gold's offer?

National Gold Group, the featured pick on this site, describes a lifetime storage-fee waiver for qualifying IRA accounts and a no-fee buyback, so you can compare the two offers question for question. Ask each for the covered fees and conditions in writing.

Who chooses the custodian if I buy through Preserve Gold?

Its June 2025 agreement places selection of the custodian and storage company with you, even when Preserve suggests providers. Get both names and fee schedules before you fund the account.
